McDonald's or MacDonald

It's time for a more happier post instead of posting about all my woes lately. So here it goes. Another cute thing Brooklyn has said lately.
Brooklyn has yet to experience McDonald's...you know, the golden arches! Sure, she's had her share of fries and fast food, but McDonald's isn't a favorite place of ours so Brooklyn has never been. So this weekend we were up in Kamas with Marty's parents. Brooklyn has a few found love of Barbies so she was playing with grandma's barbie things. They have a tray of McDonald's food for barbies and we told her it was McDonald's. So she continued to play no big deal. Later she says "Here barbie, you want Old MacDonald?". So cute, she hasn't eaten at McDonald's, but she does love Old MacDonald had a farm!
P.S. Side note, I have a friend (sorry Liz, you know who you are!) who has never eaten at McDonald's and she is 24 years old. That still amazes me! Maybe we'll try that with Brooklyn...she won't miss anything!

Drugs

If anyone has ever talked about medications with me before, you probably know I'm not a big fan. Ever since I was in High School and suffered from migraines and had to take huge pills and then the migraines would make me so sick that I would lose them anyway, so they aren't my best friend. The only pill I managed to get used to was a multi-vitamin. I know, they are huge too, but I guess I knew they were good for me so I was OK with it. It's probably a mental thing, but still.
So I tried all the "recommendations" that the doctors gave me about this pregnancy yuckiness and everything that worked with Brooklyn didn't even take the edge off this time. So I resorted to anti-nausea medication. I'm taking Promethazine and it's OK. It makes me very tired. I took a whole pill the first night and I was asleep at 8 pm and slept all night. So I started taking half of a pill three times a day and it's helping so I'm at least I'm functioning in life again. I'd rather be sleeping here and there throughout the day than stuck in bed all day!
I really hate taking medications, especially when I'm pregnant, but I guess this is what I'm going to have to do for awhile in order to make it through each day. However, I called the nurse today and she's prescribing me another medication (Zofran) that shouldn't make me so tired. It's more money, but I'm willing to try anything at this point.
Thanks to everyone who has offered to help me out with Brooklyn. My step-mom helped me out with her for a few days before I got the medicine, but it's nice to know you are all so willing. I still might need your help later. It's hard to tell.

The news is spreading...

We are pregnant! We hadn't told many people and then suddenly it feels like I told everyone. If I happened to talk to you or see you in person, I probably told you. If I haven't told you myself, I guess this blog is telling you. Sorry! We are only 9 weeks pregnant (due November 20th) so it's early on and a little scary to share the news so early, but I'm in need of help.
I'm so sick all day long. I was sick with Brooklyn from 6 weeks until about 19 weeks and honestly I don't remember it feeling this bad. I'm sure it was though (thank goodness for memory loss). I thought I had avoided it since it didn't start full swing until 8 weeks, but it's here and it's making up for the lost time. All I want to do is sleep because that's the only time I don't feel sick it seems.
So yeah, it's hard right now so if anyone has any suggestions to help me through the next who knows how long, please help! I'm a pretty horrible mom right now. I think it was easier for me to wake up and go to work than play with my 2 year old. I often find myself with the TV on all day or asleep on the couch while she plays. She's a good sport about it, but I do feel horrible about it sometimes.
I don't know how people have more than 2 children. I'm going to make myself remember how hard this is because I really have no idea how I will do it when I have two children running around, especially if one has school to attend.
Enough complaining. Any suggestions?

Tax Refund Fun!

In honor of April 15th, we wanted to share what we did with some of our tax refund money. We decided to buy Brooklyn a swing set to have in our backyard. Brooklyn loves swings and slides so she is so excited about this! We bought it on Friday and 8-9 hours later we are still putting it together. This isn't ours, but it's what it will look like when it's done. Ours is still in pieces in our backyard.
Thank goodness for tax refunds! Happy Tax Day everyone!

A Rough Few Days

We've had a rough few days at our house. Saturday morning, I woke up to Brooklyn crying and she had thrown up all over her bed and carpet. She threw up a little bit later that morning, but then seemed fine. Then later that night, she started throwing up again. Worse thing about it is she would randomly throw up so we were cleaning up throw up everywhere. It was gross!
She woke up that night with more throw up in her bed so we called the doctor and he said to just wait it out.

Sunday she was doing better, but running a pretty high fever (102 to 103), but ibuprofen would bring it down. She had the rosiest checks I have ever seen! We put her to bed and woke up to her throwing up again. So we called the doctor again at 11 pm and he said to take her to Primary Children's ER since it had been so long. She hadn't been eating during all of this either.

So here we were on Sunday night driving up to Primary Children's Hospital for our first ER visit. Why do they put the only children's hospital so far away!?
We got there about midnight and didn't see a doctor until 1:30 am. He told us she had a virus that was going around, but was worried about her being dehydrated. So he gave her an IV (400 mL) and that took one hour to finish. She was a good sport during the whole thing. She cried when they drew her blood and put the IV in, but other than that she was really good. I think she was exhausted by then.

Here she is after they first put the IV in. They really wrap up their arms to keep them from pulling the IV out. Her poor little arm!
She enjoyed the hospital visit (for the most part) and Marty taught her about how the IV worked. She would just say "again" after he was done explaining it so he explained it again and again.

We had a long time to wait so Brooklyn practiced coloring with her left hand. You could really see the difference in her after she had the fluids back in her. She had energy again and was looking better.

We got home about 4 am Monday morning and Brooklyn was sound asleep. However, I was not feeling so well. I was up all night with my turn at this wonderful virus. It was horrible! I was out of it all day Monday, but I'm feeling better today besides having no energy.

Poor Marty did it all yesterday! I'm so grateful he stayed home from work to help out. Brooklyn had an even worse day yesterday with more throw up than ever. She still isn't eating so we are just doing our best at keeping her hydrated. I'm not sure why I can beat the virus in 1 day and Brooklyn is still fighting it after 4 days. It breaks our hearts. There is nothing worse than watching your little girl lay around with no energy and crying out "mommy" or "daddy" most of the day.

So Brooklyn has watched many movies. Her new found love is The Bee Movie. It's a pretty cute movie. We (Marty more than me, especially yesterday) has washed so many sheets, pillows, towels, clothes, etc. in one day than ever before. I'm just hoping by the end of today she is feeling better. Please include her in all of your prayers. She really needs the extra help!

Goodbye bars...Hello Freedom!

Marty and I have been dealing with a very sick little girl today, but now she's all tucked into bed and Marty is still enjoying Priesthood with the men in my family. So I thought I would post something I have been meaning to post for awhile. Last Saturday, we went to my brother Tim's house and picked up a toddler bed for Brooklyn. Thanks Tim for letting us use this for awhile. We put it in Brooklyn's bedroom before her nap time and she jumped right in and hasn't gone back to her crib since.
Was this a clue she wanted out?! She loved her crib and would always play in there after waking up. She would stay in there for at least 30 minutes playing. It was nice to leave her in there because I knew she wasn't getting into any trouble.

Here's our proud big girl in her new bed. She just wanted me to take more and more pictures of this event. She would climb out and see the picture and then jump back in and say "take another one". It was really cute! She has fallen out a few times, but she's slept really well. She doesn't stay in her bed as long as she did her crib, but she usually stays in her bed until I come into her room. It's like she sees me and then realizes she can get out.
I had these nightmares about her waking up in the middle night, opening the door and walking around the house. Luckily she hasn't figured out how to open doors yet. I guess kids just understand when they need to grow up and want to do it when the time is right. We are so proud of our "big" little girl!

Kids say the best things!

I love having a child that talks so much. Sure, it can get annoying sometimes. Especially on the way to exercise this morning and she asked me "where are we going" about 20 times before I drove the 5 minutes away. Or when she sings "I'm a Child of God" through most of the sacrament meeting. At least she choose a good song, but it would have been better had she been quiet.
However, she makes me laugh more than not! I love some of the things she comes up with. The other day she was playing with her Fisher Price zoo animals. She held up the lion and said "the lion has poop". I looked and the little lion's brown tail did look a lot like poop.
And my most favorite thing she said on Sunday. Marty and I were talking in the kitchen while making dinner. Brooklyn was playing with her toys nearby. Marty was talking about how he's a "fatty". Brooklyn joined our conversation very quickly and said "no daddy, you're a hottie". Leave it to little kids to put us back in our place. I sure love all the things she comes up with daily.
