Kamas Fiesta Days/Demolition Derby

Pioneer Day usually takes us to Kamas, Utah to celebrate Kamas Fiesta Days. We've been going up there since before I married Marty.
This year, Pioneer Day fell on Sunday so we went up on Saturday, July 23rd, for all the festivities. Most of the family went up Friday or the days before. Marty and I went to see Harry Potter 7 Part 2 on Friday night so we went up Saturday morning. We went to the Kids Parade first. There we were watching the parade when....
these beauties came by. Brooklyn is in pink and Eliza in yellow on the front row. Brooklyn is wearing her 100 glasses (Kamas turned 100 this year) and Eliza is not wearing them.
They were excited to ride a float this year. Brooklyn agreed to do it after hearing she would earn 50 cents for doing it. She talked Eliza into doing it by telling her they would hold hands. :)
I don't think they held hands at all, but they did enjoy themselves. The parade is about 10 minutes long back and forth so it was perfect.
After the parade, we went to the fairgrounds to wait for the Kid Races to start. They enjoyed the playground.
Next were the kids races. Brooklyn won a chicken last year and was eager to catch another one for her grandma. No chickens this year though.

Eliza was in the 2-4 age group. She raced "horses".
I think Marty had more fun than Eliza.

She loved throwing the balls into the inner tubes the best!
She scored a treat and a quarter at the end of each game/race.
Brooklyn was in the 5-6 age group. They did a lot of fun races back and forth through the rodeo grounds. She's dressed in all pink and they are skipping.
And the end of each race, they went to the "princess" to get a quarter.
Egg balancing race. She was happy to have two of her cousins with her.
She was cautious with the egg (even if it was plastic).
The last game was musical plates. Brooklyn had never played this before, but the idea of not getting a plate caused her some anxiety.
I was proud of her though, she kept playing and actually won! She didn't get anything great from winning, just another quarter, but I was proud of her!
After the races, we went and got snow cones and lunch. Brooklyn took a train ride with the money she just won from the races.
Eliza wanted to ride the train until it came time to pay for it and decided to stay with me instead. It was past nap time at this point.
Eliza managed to get a little nap, I think. It's hard to tell with all the noises in the house at that time. We ate an early dinner and then headed off to the demolition derby! One of the highlights of the Fiesta Days!
The girls got another snow cone!Yes, Brooklyn is eating a snow cone and wearing a jacket. That's a stubborn 5 year old for ya! :)
The girls loved sitting on grandma's lap. Brooklyn stayed there most of the night. Eliza kept moving back and forth.
Eliza has a new thing where you can tell her to do a pirate face and she'll pull out a face like this and say "arr". It makes us laugh!

Many people dress up "red neck" on purpose at the derby. Marty wanted me to take pictures of as many of them as possible so he could show his boss. It was really hard to get a good picture of someone who doesn't know you are taking their picture. Here are a few.
And the guy in the hard hat jumping the fence is going out to participate in a "dance contest" to win free corn. Some people just LOVE attention! :)

Nothing too exciting happened this year. Last year was still my favorite so far.
This year they had some extra event trying to advertise for a new cable sporting event. They had a jousting event. It was too long and kind of boring. It was like watching WWF. A lot of hype for nothing.
Then we drove home. It was a long day and a late night! Eliza actually fell asleep on my shoulder before the last heat of the derby and missed the fireworks as well. She stayed asleep until I put her in the car seat to drive home.
