Kennecott Copper Mine

It was Kennecott Copper Mine's free week last week so we headed up as a family on Monday, July 11th for a FHE activity. We knew from the coupon that we had to be there before 7 pm or they wouldn't let you go up. We got there around 6:30 pm and waited for our bus to drive us up the mountain. The girls were SO excited about getting to ride a bus!It was very windy while we waited 15 minutes or so for our turn on the bus.
Eliza was super excited and kept prancing around.
The girls got a little cold waiting for the bus. I should have thought to bring jackets.
The bus ride was definitely the highlight of the trip! On the way back they even got to watch a cartoon on the bus. There were so many people on our bus that the girls rode on our laps to fit more people. Brooklyn's hair is hilarious because of all that wind!
Eliza was in pure heaven! She got excited as well when we saw our first truck on the way up.
Marty loves panoramic shots only they don't come across so well on the blog. :) The trucks look like tiny little ants.
It was even more windy at the top! A storm came through the valley that night and we even got some rain up there. The girls didn't get too much time to look around outside because it was cold, windy, rainy and our time was cut short by the wait for the bus. We had to get a picture of them by the huge tire, but they didn't really quite grasp the concept of just how huge those trucks are up there.
To get out of the cold, we went inside to watch their video. Very interesting stuff! I didn't realize the whole process of copper mining was so intense.
The girls pretty much ran through the museum, but it worked out because we were already being herded to the buses to go back down.
I think it would have been worth the $5 to drive up and have more time up there, but free week gave us a good excuse to go.
Waiting for the bus again!
Yay! The bus is here! Only we didn't get on. We had to wait for the next bus, but we were first in line!
Brooklyn waited patiently in line with me. She is riding her umbrella.
Eliza had to move so Marty went prancing around with her. Eliza has the best run! You know what I mean by prancing if you have ever seen her run.
It was a fun little evening full of activities that we don't normally get to do! The girls loved it!
